AU has planned to set up a School of Humanities and Liberal Arts as well as a School
of Science and Technology.
The Ahmedabad University (AU) plans to start 10 institutions
to accommodate 21,970 students in the next 10 years. The university will be spending
500 crore to establish required infrastructure.
AU has planned to set up a School of Humanities and Liberal Arts as well as a School
of Science and Technology. There will be four sub schools under it including School
of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Information and Communication Technology and
Engineering Technology by next year. Each of these schools will offer undergraduate,
postgraduate and doctoral programmes. AU was established by Ahmedabad Education
Society in July 2009. Currently AES has 10 colleges, out if which 5 are grant-in-aid
colleges and the rest are self-financed colleges
Chairman of the varsities management board Prafull Anubhai said, We will be enrolling
15,890 students in diploma and undergraduate programs, while 5,500 students will
be able pursue their maters degrees with us. 350 students will be registered for
the doctoral programmes as well. In line with the growth in the number of students,
the number of the faculty members will also increase in the university from 193
in the first year to around 1,000 in the next 10 years.
The university setting these schools on 250 acres of land. However the university
will not be using its corpus fund of
150 crore for the infrastructure but raise the fund through donations. We have already
collected around Rs 40 crore of donations in the last two years, said Anubhai.
AUs maiden convocation
AU will be hosting its first convocation on July 18. The convocation will have the
chairman of Infosys N. R. Narayana Murthy as its chief guest, who will confer the
degrees on 110 MBA students and 8 BBA students. These students comprise the first
batch of graduates from the university.
