Turned down a 
30 lakh job offer in India to pursue higher studies abroad
A Gujarati student, Nisarg Shah, has done his parents and
the state proud. The Ahmedabad lad has topped the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay
as he passes out, and will be awarded the Presidents gold medal at a function in
Mumbai on August 7. Nisarg has topped in all the branches in the institute.
I was a Gujarati medium student but never allowed the language complex to come in
the way of my ambition. I am feeling on top of the world as I am headed for the
Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, US to do a doctorate. I want to be a researcher,
says Nisarg, who turned down a
30 lakh job offer in India to pursue higher studies abroad. Nisarg, A student of
CN Vidyalaya in Ahmedabad, has been a top-scorer since class X in SSC he had scored
91 per cent and stood seventh in the state in Class XII (science) boards scoring
92.8 per cent in 2007.
Determined to get into the best engineering institutes in the country, Nisarg took
the IIT Joint Entrance Exam and was ranked first in the state and 34th in the country.
He opted for computer engineering at IIT-Bombay. Nisarg hails from a middle-class
family his father works in a bank while his mother is employed at Industrial Training
Institute. Apart from academics, Nisarg is also an avid swimmer and table tennis
player.
