Students are required to study 12 core subjects this year during B.Sc.
Gujarat University (GU) Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi said that admission to first year B.Sc. will commence from May 17.
HSC students can collect admission forms from all the affiliated Science colleges across the state. These colleges will also conduct counselling sessions for the students regarding the new Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
Students are required to submit the filled-in forms on or before May 20. University will declare the first merit list on May 23 and the second list on May 25.
The fees will be accepted during this period following which the third merit list will be declared on May 27.
University will introduce CBCS in BSc as well as in other Under-graduate courses from the current academic year. Under this new system, students can take up B.Sc. Honours in 10 new subjects - Geology, Electronics, Microbiology, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Computer Science.
Till now, students had to learn only 6 core subjects during BSc. Now, students are required to study 12 core subjects, including 3 subjects each in first and second semester, 2 subjects each in 3rd and 4th semester and 1 subject each in 5th and 6th semester.
Apart from that, spoken English will be included as the foundation subject in BSc.
Students will be given 30 subjects for choosing the elective subjects under the new CBCS system. 70 marks have been assigned for external exams and 30 for internal exams. Each semester will comprise of 25 weeks of academic session.
For the Honours degree, students are required to get 25 credits in each semester, which leads to 150 total credits in 6 semesters.
