Many students in city miss AIEEE paper again

Candidates miss AIEEE again, say CBSE didn’t inform them about re-registration

Govt plans an RTE redressal system

A fairly large number of students could not take All Indian Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) on Wednesday. Reason: They failed to re-register for the exam that was held today only for those candidates who had missed the May 1 exam due to clash with Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) entrance exam. But students claim this happened due to lack of communication on the part of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) about the change in the examination centres in the city.

For the May 1 examination there were 73 examination centres in Pune. But for the re-scheduled examination on May 11 there was only one centre — DAV Public School, Aundh.

Centre superintendent and principal, DAV Public School, Aundh, Jayashree Venkatraman, said, “On May 9, the CBSE sent us a list of 120 students who would take the test on May 11 which I had put up on our school gate on May 10.

As per the official communication, we were to check the new admit cards issued to the students as the old admit card was not valid for Wednesday. I had only 120 question papers and hence, could not allow the rest of the student (who may have been a little over 75) into the school for the examination.”

The students who had missed the exam on May 1 due to AFMC exam were required to re-register themselves with AIEEE on its official website from May 2 onwards.

After verifying with AFMC records, those students who were found to have appeared for the AFMC examination were issued fresh admit cards for DAV, Aundh, centre. However students claimed they were not aware of any such re-registration provision

“I did know about any re-registration procedure and since I did not receive any further notice from CBSE, I assumed I would have to go to the same centre again on May 11. But on the morning of the examination, when I reached Kendriya Vidyalaya, my previous centre, I was told to go to DAV, Aundh. I lost a lot of time in commuting and finally was not allowed to enter DAV Aundh,” said a student requesting anonymity.

Venkatraman added that later she accepted a letter from the students who missed the exam, requesting their case to be considered.
