NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMIMS)

More than 70 students will be vying for an MBA seat at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) this year. With only 720 seats available in its MBA and postgraduate diploma in management courses, the institute has received more than 51,000 applications for NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT), its entrance exam.

The applications have also gone up by 28% as compared to last year, states the institutes data. However, the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) has seen only a marginal rise in the number of applications this year.

Last year, the institute had offered NMAT at Australia, South Africa, Kuwait, Malaysia and Sri Lanka for international students. However, NMIMS School of Business Management was invited by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) to become a member this year. Therefore, international students for the first time will be admitted using GMAT scores, said an official from the university. GMAT scores for the last three years up to October 20 will be considered. The numbers of applicants for NMAT have been increasing, this year the number crossing the 50,000 mark. As on Wednesday, the number of applicants was 51,332; this might go up considering the late registration will be on till October 20.

Rajan Saxena, vice-chancellor of NMIMS university, said, the growth also shows the markets confidence in computer-based testing. The intake of 720 includes 540 seats in the Mumbai campus for MBA programmes, 120 seats in Bangalore and 60 seats in Hyderabad for the postgraduate diploma in management. NMAT would be conducted between October 31 and January 6. While NMAT saw an increase in applicants by 28%, CAT witnessed a marginal increase from 2.04 lakh in 2010 to 2.05 lakh applicants this year.
