17 Varsities in Maharashtra yet to Implement e-Suvidha

17 Universities without e-Suvidha

Despite the government making adaptation and implementation of e-Suvidha in all universities in the state mandatory, only 10 universities in the state have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) for providing e-Suvidha services.
As per a circular issued by the department of higher and technical education on February 11, it is mandatory for all universities and colleges in the state to sign an MoU with the MKCL on or before May 15 for implementation of the e-Suvidha scheme to bring all universities and colleges on a single standard digital platform.
Seventeen universities are yet to implement the scheme, which was initiated in 2006. Under this scheme the MKCL has designed and developed Digital University and Digital College software framework for providing e-services to students, teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.
In the last three years, approximately 20 lakh students in more than 2,800 colleges and study centres under ten universities have benefited through e-Suvidha. And with its further implementation 15 lakh more students will benefit.
MKCL director, Vivek Sawant, said that students get informative services, administrative and facilitation services and employment assistance through the scheme. It also provides online application facility and i-card download facility making administrative work easy and that too for just Rs. 50/- a year. The universities can benefit from academic management, examination and registration management and other services through the scheme.
He stated that even universities from other states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa were interested in the programme. Universities and colleges are required to provide all information about enrollments, courses etc for availing the scheme. However, the MKCL does not interfere with the autonomy and admissions of the institute, he clarified adding that providing all information helps in bringing transparency in the administration and therefore the institutes should not have a problem.
